That weekend, Brad appeared at Maggie’s hotel room with two large suitcases. Sometimes, he seemed to be a bit more high maintenance than Maggie. He had a lot of products, clothes, and shoes.

When he settled in with his things, they went downtown and took a walk along the river. The fresh air and light drizzle was bracing. Brad grabbed her hand, interlacing their fingers.

“So, I know you mentioned that your lease is up in a few months. I hope you don’t think this is too fast, but how would you feel about moving in with me?” Brad asked.

A sharp pain tugged inside her stomach. She didn’t expect this. Was she ready for that? What should she say? Tell him the truth.

“Wow, that’s a big step. Maybe. Let me have some time to think about it,” Maggie said.

Testing things out before making a lifelong commitment didn’t seem like a bad idea. Living with Brad would probably give her a complete Cliff cleanse.

“Okay, well, think it over and let me know. If you don’t want to move into my place, maybe we could find a bigger place together.”

“That would be nice. I’d love more space,” she said.

We’ll probably need a bigger place for all of his stuff.

Back at the room, they slipped into bed. He cupped her breasts under the covers. She rolled away.

“I’m tired. Tomorrow, okay?” she said.

She glanced at the alarm clock and rolled away from Brad to the edge of the bed. His body moved closer to hers. Then she slugged to the bathroom and downed a glass of water. This time she tried positioning herself on the other side of the bed.

Fifteen minutes of staring at the ceiling had ticked by. She got up and searched through her purse to see if there was anything that might knock her out. Bingo! She took the lint off the ibuprofen, popped the pill onto her tongue, and swallowed. She curled up in bed again, praying for sleep to come. Eventually it did.
